History Journals
Edit
Do you plan to start a peer-reviewed history journal at en.wikibooks.org?
- No I'm intending to start it here, as the goal of Wikibooks is clearly to produce book-length tracts rather than short articles (indeed short articles often find themselves culled). Actually I've already made a start on one, but I'm not quite sure how the multiple pages system works... Garrett 03:13, 13 Jul 2005 (UTC)
- If you are in a rush you can use Wiki Journal:Article Content Outline. However, I suggest you eventually follow the instructions at Template Journal for how to start a new wiki journal. I would like some feedback about how easy it is for people to create a new journal. --JWSchmidt 03:22, 13 Jul 2005 (UTC)
- Well, I must say the process was harder than I thought. I've been editing Wikipedia/Wikibooks for many months, and yet I found the examples rather confusing. Goodness knows what someone new to wiki formatting would think.

- I've put the page at The struggle for Greece: Marathon and Artemision, but some of the pages seem to indicate a short name should have been used. See what you think. Did I get it right after all? :)
- I've got to go have dinner now. I'll dissect the flaws of the process and some possible solutions later tonight. Garrett 05:56, 13 Jul 2005 (UTC)
- I had a quick look at the new journal you started and the article you submitted to it ("The struggle for Greece"). They look fine. I hope to see a really exciting article about "blablabla". I'm sorry the process of creating a new journal was painful. Hopefully we can fix the process so that it is more intuitive. --JWSchmidt 13:35, 13 Jul 2005 (UTC)
Journal article naming?
Edit
Capitalize the first letter and any proper nouns after that. Oh, and feel free to use curly apostrophes if you'd like. Sarge Baldy 03:31, 13 Jul 2005 (UTC)
Oh, as for the journal formatting, I would say we don't need "volumes". Working on a wiki that seems like kind of an awkward concept, since that distinction is usually used to categorize things being distributed independently (here we can simply expand a journal indefinitely). It makes sense to me to just keep everything together (i.e., use, as you say, "Journal of Chocolate:Health Issues in the Factory: The Antipersonal Production and Verification of Vitametavegamin Ingredients"). Sarge Baldy 11:02, 13 Jul 2005 (UTC)
- Yeah, I'd say go ahead. If someone wants to argue for a volume system later that's fine, but in the meantime this is probably the best format. Sarge Baldy 11:15, 13 Jul 2005 (UTC)
Tour
Edit
Maybe you should add one of your articles that looks nice to the tour as an example of an article. --JWSchmidt 12:21, 16 Jul 2005 (UTC)
Thanx for the Hand
Edit
Sorry I goofed the initial journal article; thanx for giving me a hand. I'm sure I'll do better on the next one :) --Rck 00:34, 17 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Hello Garrett, just letting you know I've promoted you to a sysop. Sarge Baldy 02:04, 21 Jul 2005 (UTC)
help with Template:Preliminary draft
Edit
I added instructions to the title page and content page outlines for how to use Template:Preliminary draft. --JWSchmidt 20:54, 25 Jul 2005 (UTC)
- There have been recurring problems with an article being saved over the preliminary draft template. (See template history.) I left an explanation of the problem with a possible solution on the article author's talk page. As the article is the new template, it has gotten a lot of exposure in a lot of journals! (See Initial draft) JCGonzales 06:36, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
- Article text moved to new page and template restored to latest 2005 version. JCGonzales 17:20, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
how do we do an appendix
Edit
hi guys, what's the best way to do an appendix to an article; for example, my colleague in Salem research added a chronology, that should really be part of the article, but she didn't hook it in with Journal of History and Classics:Salem revisited, because we were not quite sure how; for right now, she put it on the same page as the title page, but that's clearly not right. Please advise. --Rck 14:27, 27 Jul 2005 (UTC)
- You can ahave an unlimited number of wiki pages for an article. You can use an Article Content Outline to start a new page for your article that would hold the appendix. Give the new page its own name such as "Journal of History and Classics:Salem revisited: Appendix I". On your title page, add a link to any new page you add to your article. --JWSchmidt 16:24, 27 Jul 2005 (UTC)
